Fitting
Instructions:
Step 1
- Remove the genuine interior light. (It will be remounted
at the back of the console).
Step 2 - Remove
the fitting kit from inside the console. If your console
has a storage/access opening, remove the carpet on the base
of the storage area.
Step 3 - Hold
the console in position to check the fit. Make sure you
have received the correct console, in good order, before
cutting any holes in the console. Make sure the console
is sitting exactly in the centre of the roof. At the front
of the console, measure the distance between each sun visor
and the console. At the back of the console, measure from
each side of the console to each side of the vehicle. After
centreing the console, use a pencil to mark the position
of the console's four mounting points onto the hood lining.
Step 4 - Fit
your radio(s) and accessories into the console. - see the
"instructions on installing a radio into a console"
and the radio fitting kit supplied with the console.
Step 5 - Install
the wiring and aerial lead(s) before fitting the console.
Removal of the genuine interior light reveals an opening
in the hood lining. Remove the screws holding one side of
the passenger's side sun visor (the passenger's side is
easier to work on, if the aerial is mounted on the driver's
side, you may prefer to follow the same procedure on the
driver's side). Remove the plastic trim on the "A"
pillar (the pillar between the windscreen and the front
door). You now have access to run the wiring from the centre
of the roof to under the dashboard. Pull your wiring across
the roof above the hoodlining from the centre of the roof
to the passenger's door. Be sure to leave enough spare wire
to reach down to the seat. This will make it easier to connect
your wiring to the radio(s) before fitting the console.
The excess wire can be coiled up inside the console. Don't
forget to extend the wiring for the interior light.
Step 6 - Holes for the four mounting points must
now be drilled into the vehicle. The two front mounting
points line up with the steel channel above the windscreen.
The two back mounting points line up with one of the turret
support channels under the hood lining. In line with your
pencil marks, drill four 9/64" diameter (3.5mm) holes
through the hoodlining and through ONE LAYER of steel. Be
careful not to push the drill bit through the first layer
of steel and onto the turret. (There is a small space between
the steel channels and the turret in the places the holes
are being drilled).
Step 7 - Place
the console on the seat. Connect the wiring and check that
the radio(s) and accessories are operational before installing
the console. If your console has a storage/access opening
you may wish to position your wiring or fuses at the back
of the console to allow easy access without removing the
console.
Step 8 - Coil
up any excess wire while lifting the console in position.
Press the console firmly onto the hoodlining. Ensure that
all four mounting points line up with the screw holes in
the vehicle.
Step 9 - Open
the fitting kit. Attach the front of the console to the
vehicle using two of the 18mm 12 gauge self-tapping screws
supplied. There are three snap caps (one spare) provided
in the fitting kit to cover the heads of these screws. Do
not tighten these screws yet, this will allow the back of
the console to move enough to line up the back mounting
screw holes.
Step 10 - Using
the two 35mm 12 gauge self-tapping screws, attach the back
of the console to the remaining mounting points. Two interior
light earth wires have been provided. A earth wire should
be attached to each back mounting screw. You will need a
no. 2 phillips head screw driver with a shaft at least 200mm
long for a deep profile roof console or at least 150mm long
for a low profile roof console. (The longer the screwdriver
the easier it will be to fit the console).
Step 11 - Tighten
the front mounting screws then place a snap cap over the
head of each screw.
Step 12 - Connect
the interior light wiring plug, then run the earth wires
through the hole in the interior light. Using the two remaining
18mm 12 gauge self-tapping screws, attach the interior light
to the base of the console. The switches on the interior
light should be at the back of the light hole (i.e. the
side of the light hole closest to the back of the vehicle).
Attach the two earth wires using the two interior light
mounting screws.
Step 13 - If
your console has a storage/access opening, replace the carpet
inside the storage area.
