Nissan Patrol GU 2005 Update Dashboard Pod (standard height vacuum moulded finish)

Description:

A dashboard pod is a binnacle that sits on top of the dashboard and is ideal for mounting a radio(s), CB extension speaker, etc. This dashboard pod is specifically designed to fit the GU Patrol.

The standard height and the "low rise" pod are the same price - $330 (incl. GST). Plus options and accessories plus freight.

Points of interest:

  • Each pod has been specifically designed to neatly follow the contours of the dashboard. When fitted they look like an original part of the vehicle.
  • Robust construction — suitably durable for “off road” driving.
  • Attached to the dashboard with Velcro tape. There is no need to drill holes when wiring or installing the pod (fitting instructions are included).
  • The facia layout is optional. We can custom build the pod by cutting holes to suit specific radio(s), extension speakers, gauges, switches, GPS Navigation systems etc. Click here for hole cutting prices.
  • Upholstered in a vinyl finish. We have a manufactured vinyls for this dash pod that is exclusively used to match the dashboard.
  • A vacuum formed finish is also available for this dash pod. This is a foam backed, heat shrunk, one wrap (no seams) finish to match the dashboard. Click here for pricing.
  • There are two different pods available for this model, standard height and low rise. The low rise pod is ideal for mounting slimline radios. A din size unit will fit into this pod but would need to be positioned on the passengers side. The standard height pod will accept a din size unit on either side.
  • We manufacture our consoles in weekly batches. If we receive an order by Monday 5:30pm Sydney time your console will be dispatched on the following Friday. The dispatch date can vary if there is a public holiday.
  • Professional fitting service available.

Fitting Instructions:

The GU Patrol dash pod is attached to the dashboard with Velcro tape. The dashboard must be cleaned and dried thoroughly to allow good adhesion. The pod and the Velcro tape can be removed at a later date without leaving any evidence that the pod had been installed.

STEP 1. Clean the dashboard thoroughly in the area that the Velcro tape is to be attached . Firstly, clean the dashboard with a cloth dipped in warm soapy water. Remove all traces of soap with a wet cloth. Dry off the dashboard, then wipe off any remaining residue with prepsol or a cleaning alcohol (Note: if the dash board has been cleaned or protected with a product that contains silicon, additional cleaning will be required to ensure adhesion of the Velcro tape. Be careful, after cleaning the dashboard once, it will appear silicon free. However, the silicon residue in the grain of the dashboard vinyl will prevent a good adhesion. We recommend cleaning the dashboard three or four times using warm soapy water and a nail brush).

STEP 2. Using a chinagraph pencil or masking tape, accurately mark out the position of the Velcro tape onto the outside of the pod.

The eight arrows indicate the position of the lines to be marked on the outside of the pod.

STEP 3. Sit the pod in place on the dashboard. Using the lines marked on the pod, accurately mark out on the dashboard the position of the Velcro tape.

WARNING.
The 'self adhesive' Velcro tape must be attached to the dashboard in the correct position on your first attempt. If you remove the tape from the dashboard and try to re-attach it, the adhesion will not be adequate. Avoid touching the adhesive side of the tape with your fingers.

STEP 4. Attach the 'self adhesive' side of the Velcro tape onto the dashboard so that it is aligned with the Velcro tape attached to the mounting bracket and the Velcro tape on the front of the pod. Press the tape firmly onto the dashboard to ensure good adhesion.

STEP 5. Remove the snap caps on each side of the dash pod. Unscrew the two metal thread screws then remove the mounting bracket from inside the pod.

STEP 6. Attach the mounting bracket to the dashboard in between the lines marked out in step 3.

STEP 7. Test the adhesion of the Velcro tape on the dashboard. If it is not firmly attached there is probably some silicon residue on the dashboard. In this case, repeat steps 1 & 4 using the spare piece of velcro tape supplied in the fitting kit.

STEP 8. Install the wiring for your radio(s) or accessories.

For a neat installation of wiring without drilling any holes - a hole has been cut out at the back of the pod to accept a wiring loom for radio(s) or accessories. Remove the glovebox to provide access under the dashboard.Run the wiring through the windscreen demister vent hole that is closest to the hole in the pod. The wiring can be threaded between the plastic demister vent and the crash pad. Another alternative is to remove the passenger's side 'A' pillar cover. Run your wiring up through the gap next to the 'A' pillar. Next, run the wiring across to the centre of the dashboard and tuck it into the gap between the windscreen and the crash pad. Make sure you have at least 50cm of wiring protruding from the centre of the dash board. Run your wiring over the top of the dashboard then through the half round cut out at the front of the pod. A vinyl covered tube has been supplied to cover the wiring that is exposed between the pod and the windscreen.

STEP 9. Coil up any excess wire inside the pod then place the pod in position over the mounting bracket.

STEP 10. Using a scriber or similar sharp instrument, line up the holes in the side of the pod with corresponding holes in the mounting bracket.

STEP 11. Check that the base of the pod is neatly following the contours of the dashboard. If it is not fitting neatly, return to step 6 and re-position the mounting bracket.

STEP 12. Attach the pod to the mounting bracket by replacing the two metal thread screws. As you tighten each screw, lift the screw up to put tension on the Velcro tape. When the screws are tight the centre of the mounting bracket will rise and put more tension on the Velcro tape. The pod should now be a firm fit on the dashboard.

STEP 13. Replace the two snap caps to cover the heads of the metal thread screws.

STEP 14. If required, place the vinyl covered tube over the exposed wiring between the pod and the windscreen.
