FITTING INSTRUCTIONS: Introduction
This rear roof console is designed to fit the vehicle by utilising existing
mounting points. There are no holes to drill and the console will not mark the
vehicle in any way. This is achieved by utilising five standard mounting points.
Three mounting points are the child restraint anchor bolt captive nuts. The other
two are the 8mm holes in the roof support channels that accept "Christmas
tree" catches for the trim panels fitted around the roof windows (i.e. the
alpine lights). STEP 1: Remove the two trim panels fitted around
the roof windows. STEP 2: If applicable,
install the wiring and antenna leads for radios or accessories fitted to the console. STEP
3: Removal of the trim panels has revealed four plastic sleeves, each is fitted
into 8mm diameter holes in the roof support channels. The sleeve closest to the
back of the vehicle should be removed on each side. STEP
4: Open the "console fitting kit" and you will find two modified
"hollow wall anchors". These wall anchors have been designed to fit
into the 8mm holes to create two captive nuts. The 21mm threaded screw that is
fitted to each wall anchor has been supplied to attach the wall anchor to
the vehicle. Fit the wall anchors, the discard the two 21mm threaded screws. WARNING.
The 35mm x 4mm threaded screws supplied with the "console fitting kit"
are used to replace the 21mm screws and attach the console to the "hollow
wall anchors" Do not fit these 35mm screws until the trim panels have been
replaced and the console is in position. Due to its length this 35mm screw will
dent the turret if fitted directly to the wall anchor. STEP
5: Re-mount the two roof window trim panels. STEP
6: There are three steel mounting brackets supplied in the "console fitting
kit". These brackets are attached to the vehicle by utilising the three child
restraint captive nuts. Attach the largest of the three brackets to the centre
captive nut using the genuine high tensile set screw and washer. The two smaller
brackets are identical. Attach these to the two remaining captive nuts. Using
the two high tensile 5/16" x 1 1/2" UNC set screws and washers supplied
in the "console fitting kit".
STEP 7: Remove the caps from the snap-caps fitted to the five screws in
the fitting kit. STEP 8: There are three
holes in the frame at the back of the console that line up with the three mounting
fitted to the vehicle. Using a phillips head screw driver or similar, puncture
a hole in the trim under these three holes. STEP
9: Hold the console in position ensuring that the external brackets line up
with the "hollow anchors". Attach the two 35mm x 4mm threaded screws
to the "hollow wall anchors". STEP
10: Drill an 11/64" diameter hole into each of the three internal mounting
brackets. The three holes should be drilled in line with the three holes in the
frame of the roof console. STEP 11:
Attach the three self tapping screws to the three mounting brackets. STEP
12: Replace the five caps back onto the snap-cap washers. |
