Points of Interest:
- Experience you can trust- we've been making automotive consoles for over 50 years, and Speaker Door Pods since the mid 1990's
- No cutting or bending required- if you choose from our recommended speakers, there's no need for cutting, drilling, painting, or rust-proofing your door frames. Too often we wee rust stains leaking from the drain holes in the doors because someone has cut or drilled into the door and not cleaned up all of the swarf.
- Australian Made – crafted be hand right here in Sydney
- Premium Upholstery – Available in DeluxeTrim Grey (custom made to match your door trim and armrest) or DeluxeTrim Black.
- DIY Friendly – Comes with clear, step-by-step instructions, including guidance on routing speaker wiring correctly through the door grommet.
- Enhanced Sound Quality – No plastic in the construction, this product is built with a combination of premium plywood and medium-density fibreboard (MDF) to reduce vibration and improve audio clarity.
FAQ's:
- Why don't you offer these to suit a 6x9" speaker?
We don't offer a Speaker Door Pod to suit a 6x9" speaker as the 70 Series LandCruiser doors are suited to have a round speaker installed. Fitment of an oval shape speaker in this vehicle model would require cutting and modification to the steel door frame.
There is a small hole (approx. 120mm wide by 150mm high) at the front of the door frame in the 4-door 70 Series models. We have aligned the speaker hole in our Speaker Door Pod with the hole in the door frame so that the speaker magnet aligns perfectly and sits inside the door frame without any steel cutting or modifications. This is only achievable with our recommended 6.5" speakers.
To fit a 6x9" speaker in the 70 Series LandCruiser models, the installer would need to take a jigsaw or nibbler to the door frame to create space for the speaker cradle and magnet. We doubt you'd want to cut steel out of the door frame in your pride and joy, but if you need more convincing, to prevent future rust issues in the door frame:
-
- There is extensive cleaning required to remove the steel swarf from inside the door frame
- The installer will need to paint the exposed steel edge
- Additional rust proofing is required inside the door frame
- The process above is time-consuming, expensive, and unnecessary
From an audio point of view....
-
- The large woofer cone is a different width to length so it is obviously uneven. Due to the speaker shape, the woofer cone distorts more than a round speaker, affecting the sound quality at higher volumes.
- Simply put, 6x9s do not faithfully reproduce sound like separate components do. Component speakers offer a far better experience as they can be mounted separately for optimal staging and imaging. This, of course doesn't apply for component 6x9" speakers.
- As the woofer is seated directly underneath the midrange and/or tweeter, it can cause great stress and problems for the midrange and/or tweeter, which is trying to play a higher frequency than the pounding a woofer underneath. More often than not, midrange clarity tends to suffer and can sound blurred as the woofer underneath wins every time.

- Check Your Stereo’s Power Output
Make sure your stereo can handle the number of speakers you plan to install. If not, you may need to upgrade your stereo or add an amplifier. - Optimising the 4” Dashboard Speakers
While you can upgrade the 4” speakers under the dash, many customers choose to disconnect them from the stereo and instead use them for their UHF radio. This improves clarity and volume, making it easier to hear over your music. - Run Speaker Cables First
Before installing the Speaker Door Pods, run all necessary speaker wiring to make installation smoother. - Use Plastic Trim Tools
Avoid using metal tools like screwdrivers to remove plastic clips and trim—they will damage the plastic. Instead, use plastic trim removal tools for a safer, cleaner job. - Install Sound Deadening
Apply sound-deadening material inside the external steel door frame to improve audio quality and reduce vibrations. More details below. - Rust Prevention Tip
While your door trims are off, apply cavity wax or rust-preventative spray inside the door frame. This helps prevent rust, especially if you do river crossings or drive in wet conditions.
-
Sound Deadening Tips?
- Enhance Your Audio and Reduce Noise- applying sound deadening inside the outer steel door skin helps dampen vibrations, reduce road noise, and improve both sound quality and speaker volume.
- Prepare the Surface- before installing, wipe down the steel with wax and grease remover to ensure proper adhesion.
- Cut Into Strips for Easy Installation- since access holes in the door frame are small, cut the sound deadening into strips to fit it through and apply it more easily.
- Maximise Coverage- for the best results, cover as much of the steel as possible to effectively reduce unwanted noise and improve speaker performance.
